One stop info shop for local elders set to get underway

Age concern 2

A one-stop info shop focusing on services for the elderly, disabled, and their caregivers will take place this Thursday.

The Wairoa Age Concern Aging and Disability Expo is all about bringing together information and services.

Wairoa Age Concern Manager Jan Little said through their work, they have found there are a lot of people in the community who are looking after our elderly, particularly family members looking after parents, but they often don’t know what type of support can be available for them.

“Since the closure of the Glengarry rest home a lot of local people are looking after their elderly themselves, but many may not have had the opportunity to be fully informed about what that might mean and what services they may be able to access. The expo is about sharing as much information with as many people as possible.”

Thursday’s Aging and Disability Expo has drawn around 30 different stalls, with key providers offering information, support and assistance.

The expo will be held at the War Memorial Hall from 9am-3pm and include food and coffee.

Mrs Little said it will be a relaxed day where people can chat and gather information at their own pace. “Everyone is welcome to call in and enjoy the day and the information sharing.”
