Wairoa isite Visitor Information Centre opening draws closer

isite artists impression

Work on the new main street Wairoa isite Visitor Information Centre development is steadily progressing with a late January opening likely.

The rebuild, in the former Winter’s building on the corner of Marine Parade and Locke Street, will include a Visitor Information Centre reception, outside courtyard, office and toilet facilities and bus stop area.

It had been hoped that the development would open by the end of the year, but unforeseen issues with foundation work following the demolition of the existing buildings delayed progress.

The site has now been closed in with electrical and plumbing work progressing.

The total contract budget is $ 2.5 million, and despite a 15% increase in the scope of work, the cost is currently within budget.

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little said the development of the Winter’s building and relocation of the Wairoa isite Visitor Information Centre had been a Council dream for a decade. “This work was predominantly funded by Central Government through the Provincial Growth Fund and is part of revitalising the Marine Parade and putting energy back into our central business district.”
