Māhanga water supply restrictions

Water Website Mahanga 01

The temporary Māhanga water supply restrictions have now been lifted, with Council extending thanks to those who abided by the limitations.

The temporary water restriction was on Council-supplied outdoor water use and came into effect in mid-December.

The restrictions ensured the continued availability of Māhanga supply water for essential needs and to ensure sufficient water was available in the event of a fire emergency.

Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna said that although the holiday season turned out to be wetter than indicated when the restrictions were brought in, the Council appreciates the cooperation and commitment to conserving water.

“Now that the peak holiday time is over, the outdoor water use restriction has been lifted, but I encourage people to stay mindful of our water use and keep conservation in mind moving forward.

“Thank you again to the Māhanga community for your support in conserving water.”

A reminder, the Māhanga water supply is non-potable, and as a precaution, all water from the Māhanga water supply should be boiled before use.
