Emergency Mobile Alert System test

Emergency mobile alert

The annual nationwide test of the Emergency Mobile Alert System is taking place on the evening of this Sunday, 28 May 2023, between 6-7pm.

Emergency Mobile Alerts are messages about emergencies sent by authorised emergency agencies to capable mobile phones. The alerts aim to keep people safe and are broadcast to all capable phones from targeted cell towers.

The nationwide test of the Emergency Mobile Alert System is part of making sure the system works well.

The alerts are targeted to areas affected by serious hazards. They will only be sent when there is a serious threat to life, health or property, and in the case of this Sunday, for test purposes.

You can find more information about the Emergency Mobile Alert system at https://getready.govt.nz/emergency-mobile-alert/.
