On 24 September 2024, the Wairoa District Council considered the submissions received on its initial proposal regarding the representation arrangements for the Council to apply for at least the 2025 triennial local authority elections.

The Council received two submissions, both of which were in support of the initial proposal.

Final Proposal

Having considered these submissions, Council resolved on 24 September 2024 to adopt its initial proposal as its

final proposal for at least the 2025 triennial local authority elections, specifically:

• a) The Wairoa District Council to comprise the mayor elected at large and six councillors elected from two
• district-wide wards:
• (i) Wairoa General Ward, represented by three general ward councillors; and
• (ii) Wairoa Māori Ward, represented by three Māori ward councillors.
• b) There be no community boards.

Timeline

• Tuesday 24 September 2024: Council Meeting (Final Proposal Resolution)
• Tuesday 1 October 2024:  Public Notice (Final Proposal)
• Tuesday 1 October 2024 – Friday 1 November 2024: Appeal/objection period (one month)
• November: Forward material to LGC (if required)

Appeals

Any person who made a submission on Council’s initial proposal may lodge an appeal against the Council’s decision. An appeal must relate to the matters raised in that person’s submission.
