Concrete pour complete at Glenbrook

Glenbrook concrete web

The Glenbrook river crossing at Waikare could be open to light vehicles later this week.

The concrete deck was poured last Wednesday, and it is now curing to allow it to reach the required strength before trafficking.

Teams have cleared and formed the approach roads to either end of the crossing, which will also involve building up to the deck level.

The approaches will be guarded with large rip rap rock for increased river scour protection during flooding. This week, a debris screen and timber kerbing on the deck will also be installed.

It is expected the crossing will open to light vehicles first, and once concrete testing has been completed and the concrete cures to the required strength, the crossing will be opened to heavy vehicles.

Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna said the building and installation of the crossing is a huge success. “We know the last seven months have been incredibly disruptive and inconvenient for the rural residents of the Glenbrook area, and we appreciate your patience. Thank you to the Council staff and contractors for your work and focus on regaining connectivity.”

Once the temporary crossing is complete, site investigations around the design and feasibility at the old bridge site will begin.
