Glenbrook Road connectivity restored

Waikare 12 web

Connectivity at Waikare’s Glenbrook Road was celebrated last week.

Rural residents had been without access since Cyclone Gabrielle when the Glenbrook Road bridge was washed away.

Residents were isolated for months and could only drive out in 4 x 4 vehicles across the river in premium conditions.

The new crossing was completed earlier this month and aims to ensure a safe and secure crossing.

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little, who attended the celebration, thanked those impacted residents for their patience since the bridge washout. “Council staff and contracting roading teams have worked hard to restore access, and we appreciate the effort put in to restore connectivity for our district. This was a challenging job, particularly over such a wet winter, and I thank everyone for their input.”
