SH2 south of Wairoa to remain closed overnight

Road cosure wEB bANNER

State Highway 2 just south of Wairoa will remain closed overnight following a large slip that occurred in the early hours of this morning after the heavy rain over the weekend.

Contractors have been working all day to clear the slip, but a geotechnical assessment has advised that more work must be done before the stretch of road can safely open.

The road is closed near the intersection with The Crescent.

Waka Kotahi Hawke’s Bay/Tairāwhiti System Manager Martin Colditz says the closure is crucial to ensure the safety of road users in the area.

“Please delay your travel. It’s important to emphasise that we are doing as much as we can, as quickly as possible, to get this connection restored.”

Waka Kotahi will provide an update as early as possible tomorrow morning on the timeframe for reopening.

Meanwhile, around 20 roads in the Wairoa District network are closed due to slipping. For up-to-date road closure information, please go to https://www.wairoadc.govt.nz/services/roading/
