Registrations are rolling in for the Wairoa Christmas Parade – scheduled for Saturday, December 9.
The fun and festive afternoon has an ‘Everyone Santa’ theme, allowing the whole town to demonstrate the spirit of Christmas by wearing local versions of Santa and Mrs Claus.
The event will feature the main street float parade, which will begin at 2pm, followed by prizegiving and a family concert at the lighthouse where there will also be a bouncy castle and stalls.
A sausage sizzle will see all koha going to St John Ambulance, with the Wairoa District Council and Rural New Zealand Women matching the funds.
The Christmas theme is bound to attract lots of tinsel and sparkling lights, decorations and other yuletide trimmings.
Organisers are pleased with registrations so far and encourage even more people to join in.
Wairoa Mayor Craig Little said the parade is a fun-filled whānau day and a chance to kick back and enjoy a festive community event. “I encourage as many people as possible to take part in the parade and support the event.”
For those who enter floats, plenty of prizes are up for grabs with categories for best commercial, education provider and community organisation, as well as best costume age group prizes for boys and girls.
This year’s sponsors are Wairoa District Council, Wairoa Taiwhenua, Wairoa New World, Kahungunu Executive, ADARA, Wairoa Tennis Club, Rural Women New Zealand and QRS.
Registrations close at 4pm on Friday, December 8. Email rubyanne@wairoadc.govt.nz for your registration form or collect it from the Wairoa i-Site office.
