Starting February 2024, Aotearoa is taking the next step towards reducing waste with a national campaign designed to make recycling easy and consistent for everyone.
Most of the recycling rules are the same, with some minor changes that the Ministry for Environment has asked us to put in place. It may seem odd to change some of the ways you have been recycling, but remember, this is part of a nationwide programme which will help us get on top of our recycling issues together. Your support is part of a massive efforts towards reducing waste in Aotearoa.
Every household is allowed to put a maximum of two WDC approved bins out for recycling each week. Bins a available for purchase from the WDC office on Queen Street for $14.
To ensure your bins are collected please make sure:
- Your Recycling is Clean. Only clean recycling will be collected. Make sure to empty and rinse ALL food, drink, products off before putting in your bin.
- Your paper and cardboard are clean and flattened. Make sure no food or extra packaging is between layers.
- Lids are Removed. Please remove ALL lids, caps and triggers from all bottles and throw into your rubbish.
- Lids larger than 50mm, made from recyclable product, such as 1, 2 and 5 plastics or steel.
- Items should not exceed the height of the crate.
- Items must not be smaller than 50mm or larger than 4litres.
* Kerbside collection in the Wairoa District is currently available in the township and Frasertown. Residents from other areas are able to access the Recycling Centre on Fraser Street on normal days of operation.
