Minister Visit

EOC 1 cropped

Yesterday, the Minister announced $100,000 in funding for the Wairoa Mayoral Relief Fund. This was part of a $300,000 fund with $100,000 going to Hawke’s Bay and $100,000 to Tairāwhti.

Mr Mitchell and his team, including Wendy Wright, NEMA (National Emergency Management Agency) National Controller, finally made it to Wairoa late yesterday evening and chose to stay overnight in town to support the community.

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little said he is grateful for the Minister’s support and particularly having him on the ground in town to see for himself the damage the flooding has caused. “Having the Minister here has been a great opportunity for us to share our concerns, both in relation to our outstanding needs relating to Cyclone Gabrielle, and now extensive additional needs as a result of this flooding event.
