Wairoa District Council has declined an application to move 18 gaming machines from the Ferry Hotel to the Frasertown Tavern.
The application for the relocation of the current gaming licence was considered as per the Council Class 4 Gaming Venue policy.
Wairoa District Council Acting Community Services and Development Group Manager, Lauren Jones said the two venues are operated by the same operator.
The Ferry Hotel received a yellow placard sixteen months ago as a result of Cyclone Gabrielle – indicating it had sustained damage and needed repairs.
"The Ferry is still being operated for accommodation and the alcohol and food licences remain active.
"Council is not of the view that circumstances are beyond the control of the operator to continue from the existing Ferry Hotel site."
Meanwhile, the Wairoa District Council Class 4 Gaming Venue policy will go out for review and public consultation with the community later this year.
