Min Mitchell visit

Wairoa and flood mitigation for the town, remain priorities for Emergency Management Minister Mark Mitchell.

Minister Mitchell was in town directly after the June flooding and has been on the ground and in continued contact to check in on Wairoa’s flood-related recovery – acknowledging the challenges Wairoa has experienced with two flood events within 18 months of each other.

During last week’s visit, Minister Mitchell expressed how pleased he is with how Wairoa’s flood mitigation project is progressing under the leadership of Crown Manager Lawrence Yule.

Minister Mitchell met with two of the project’s tripartite partners, Wairoa District Council and Tātau Tātau o Te Wairoa, and said he is happy with the advancements being made and reiterated his desire to see Wairoa build back to be even better than it was before the flooding events.
