I declare the result of the Māhanga Water Supply Closure Referendum taken on Friday, 29 September 2017 for the Wairoa District Council to be as follows:
Votes Received
FOR the closure of the Māhanga Water Supply 11 (21.6%)
AGAINST the closure of the Māhanga Water Supply 40 (78.4%)
(0 informal votes and 0 blank votes)
Under the Local Government Act 2002, where a water service is to be closed, a binding referendum must be held with electors in the water supply area. A threshold of 75% of votes cast is required for the water service to close. This threshold was NOT achieved as only 21.6% of the votes cast favoured the closure.
Voter return was 92.7%.
Please contact Electoral Officer James Baty, 06 838 7309, james@wairoadc.govt.nz if you have any queries about this referendum.
