Wairoa District Council has been recognised as a ‘Proud Employer of Fire and Emergency New Zealand volunteers’.
The Council is Wairoa’s largest employer of FENZ volunteers, with seven dedicated brigade members, including the chief fire officer and acting deputy chief fire officer working at the Council.
The roles of these seven firefighters span several departments, including Property, Recovery, Planning, Compliance, Waste, and Environmental Health.
Wairoa Chief Fire Officer Luke Knight said the Council's unwavering support has made a significant difference to the brigade’s ability to serve and protect our community. “We are immensely thankful for the Council’s understanding, flexibility, and encouragement of our firefighters. Thank you, Wairoa District Council, for being such a vital part of our team.”
Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna encouraged other local businesses and organisations to support the brigade. “This is a way of giving back to our community by supporting the crucial role carried out by these volunteer firefighters. Without local volunteers, there would be no Wairoa brigade. We are tremendously proud of our staff and the role they play in supporting and protecting our community.
