‘One Love’ is expected to be the beat for this year’s Wairoa Waitangi Day commemorations.
Wairoa District Council successfully applied to the Ministry for Culture and Heritage, securing $6,000 to go towards the event.
In recommending a theme for the February 6 commemorations, Council’s Strategy, Wellbeing and Economic Development Committee elected members felt Kotahitanga – projecting unity, togetherness and solidarity was appropriate.
The ‘One Love’ theme also fits in with the Wairoa Museum Roots Rock and Reggae Bob Marley exhibition, which will feature at the Wairoa Museum from February 1 through to April and feature 50 images of Bob Marley.
The Council’s Community and Engagement team is finalising the Waitangi Day plans and will work alongside key organisations to deliver the event.
