Localised and regional applications for financial assistance through Creative Communities New Zealand open this week.
The funding scheme aims to increase participation and the range and diversity of arts available to local communities.
Creative New Zealand is a central government agency and New Zealand's main organisation for arts funding. Funds are administered by Councils, and this round, Wairoa is aligning its funding dates with other Hawke’s Bay Councils to encourage a more regional approach.
Criteria around the fund include creating opportunities for local communities, with a particular focus on under 18-year-olds, to engage and participate in local arts and support the diverse artistic and cultural traditions of local communities.
The fund will open on Friday, February 7, 2025, and closes three weeks later on Friday, February 28.
Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna said the fund is a great way for artists to share their skills with others in the community. The scheme is not a large arts funding avenue, and nationally, grants are mostly under $2,000 per project.
“Council is more than happy to provide assistance to complete the application form, just contact Latoya Tipuna either via email latoya@wairoadc.govt.nz or call 06 838 7309. If there is demand, quick sessions to explain about the fund and help with applications will also be run. Application forms and full details, including the financial criteria, are available at Creative Communities NZ
