The Wairoa Carters Building Supplies branch has been named the best branch for 2024 at a national internal awards ceremony.
The local branch was selected based on its ability to exceed all set targets, be proficient in health and safety, and undergo significant development by implementing new processes.
Wairoa-born and bred manager Jamie Tollison said she was over the moon to have picked up the best branch award – a first for Wairoa in over 20 years.
The North Clyde building supplies business has done it tough in recent times, affected by weather and flooding events, including Cyclone Gabrielle, when the McDonald Street business had more than half a metre of floodwaters washed through the entire worksite, including the buildings and yard.
Jamie and her team spent two weeks cleaning up before reopening to the public so they could help to support the district’s rebuild.
“Carters has been, and is, committed to supplying and rebuilding our town following the flooding events. With strong support behind me to lead the team, we have come out on top, and we are grateful to our loyal clients who support us.”
Jamie said that after what Wairoa has been through, it is great to see the local branch being recognised as a top performer and to be able to celebrate the success as a team. We want to extend a huge thanks to the people of our town and district for their support, understanding, and trust in us as their preferred building partner of choice.
Jamie, who has been with Carters for 13 years, the last four as manager, described the acknowledgement as a testimony to Wairoa. “Recognising success plays an important part in the way Carters encourage its branch teams to strive for excellence to achieve great results, both personally and professionally. To have achieved this recognition in what has been a tough year for the industry has been a highlight for our team.”
This year’s Carters Branch Awards were held at the end of February at Abbeville Estate in Auckland.
The awards were attended by Jamie and staff member Stevie Thompson-Tuhi. Other staff at Carters are Murdoch McKenzie, Simon Hamblyn, and the newest team member, Gemma Maurirere. Jamie thanked her staff for their support, saying they are a great team, and she is always on the lookout for new talent to join Carters Wairoa.
The acknowledgement included an engraved trophy, framed certificate and branch prize for the Wairoa team to celebrate together.
