GREAT BUSINESS GREAT PEOPLE: Purple Petals

If you still haven’t bought your significant other a Valentine’s Day gift, local florist Heidi Griffin can pull a few strings for you.

With Valentine’s Day only two sleeps away, Mrs Griffin – who now runs Wairoa’s new florist and gift shop, Purple Petals – has ordered extra flowers and merchandise to cater for what she’s expecting to be a busy 48 hours or so.

Mrs Griffin opened her new business at 5 Paul Street more than a week ago. She decided to open a florist shop after learning that her good friend Barbara Elliot was closing her floristry business in Frasertown.

“I saw the opportunity and wanted to continue on from the amazing work that Barb was doing… I thought we need to carry on serving the community like this,” Mrs Griffin said.

Barbara ran Barb’s Country Flowers at the old post office building in Frasertown.

Business is now blooming for Purple Petals. Heidi says she will be increasing her orders on various special occasions coming up like Mother’s Day and Anzac Day.

Purple Petals is not just a flower shop. Heidi also sells soaps, gift packs, hampers, bees wax candles (from a local bee-keeper,) soft toys, natural repellent products and a range of Weleda merchandise.

“I’m really keen to provide a great local service for this community.

“The transition from Barb’s shop in Frasertown closing to my store opening here in Wairoa was about filling a gap in the market and creating a space that supplies locally made products.

“I would like to encourage more local artists to sell their products through Purple Petals. We have so many talented local artists and craft-makers; I’d love the opportunity to showcase their products.

“I just want to make people happy by offering them something that could cheer them up.”

You can visit Purple Petals at 5 Paul Street, which is only a few doors down from Wairoa’s Westpac Bank branch.
