Storm water inflow, into the town’s sewerage systems, causes major problems for a lot of residents, our four sewer pump stations and at the treatment plant.
The sewer reticulation network is designed to cope with sewerage flows only. Severe overloading of the sewerage network occurs during rainfall events.
Therefore, Council is undertaking an extensive review of the storm water and wastewater systems in the Wairoa township.
Over the next nine to 12 months Council will be visiting each property in Wairoa, to find out if there are storm water and wastewater-related issues on your property.
We want your help to identify any issues with your property, if any, even if you have already told us.
The town will be broken into blocks of areas of about 100 to 150 properties.
This means that there will be about 100 to 150 houses assessed in each block at one time.
Council staff and contractors will be carrying out the visits on a “houses per block” basis.
Please remember that these are investigations only and will involve smoke testing and visual observations.
The first stage will be the Kopu Road pump station catchment.
Once this investigation work is completed, we will be looking into options for fixing the storm water and wastewater issues.
A cover letter and a survey, will be sent out to all properties, prior to the site investigations in the area.
WSP Opus Consultants are assisting with the process, as they have had previous experience in this work.
The physical work will be carried out by Fulton Hogan contractors.
