Kinikini Road in Mahia closed

Kinikini Road

COUNCIL has closed Kinikini Road in Mahia after recent weather events over the past 48 hours contributed to new cracks forming in the road.

Geotech engineers today advised Council to close the road until the weather improved.

Transport Asset Manager Libby Young says road closure signs will be put in place today, and he is advising members of the public to stay away from the area.

Cracks appeared at the Taylor’s Bay end of the road in April. After assessing the road, Geotechnical Engineers advised Council then to close it in the event of a rain storm.

Ms Young says the road is not secure and residents on Kinikini Road are advised that there will be short-term and long-term closures planned in the future.

“We would like to encourage all other members of the public to keep away from the area, we are only allowing access for residents who have light vehicles when conditions permit,” Ms Young.

If you require any further information regarding this road, you can contact Ms Young on 06 838 7309.
