A Wairoa District Council staff reorganisation proposal is underway.

Council’s chief executive Steven May, on his appointment to the role, was briefed by the Mayor and Councillors concerning feedback they were receiving from the community.

Mr May was given clear direction that the community expected change in some processes and he was tasked to undertake a full operational assessment.

“Over the past six months, I have been looking at the operation of the Council and identifying areas that we do well in and areas where I think we need improvement.

“The process we are going through is underpinned by a community focus and the most efficient use of ratepayer dollars.

“I recognise this is an unsettling time for staff, but an organisation must continually review its services and be responsive to the community it serves.

“We need to constantly monitor our operations and make sure we are doing the best job for the community and with the community.

“I have put forward a proposal to staff and I am looking forward to hearing their feedback and taking their thoughts on board.”
