The Wairoa District Council staff reorganisation came into effect yesterday.
Council’s chief executive Steven May said a lot of thought and input had gone into the final staffing structure.
“The reorganisation process was underpinned by a community focus and the most efficient use of ratepayer dollars.
“It is essential we are structured to be more responsive to the community and deliver our services as efficiently as possible.
“It is also important services are delivered from a multi-skilled platform, so that we can be more resilient and adaptable to the ever-changing regulatory complexity.
“We are living and working in an environment that alters regularly, and it is important this Council is in the best position it can be to enable us to do the best job for our community.
“The final reorganisation resulted in three positions being disestablished and the senior leadership team dropping from five to four.
“The disestablished positions are chief operating officer, district planner and engineering manager with the engineering manager position to be replaced by a new role, Group Manager Community Assets and Services, which is currently being advertised.”
