One year on and Wairoa’s Destination Playground is a huge hit.
The playground was opened on December 22, 2017, and over the past year, Council has made significant enhancements to the playground and surrounding area.
Public toilets have been built and were opened last week.
There is also work being carried out around the carpark to make it as safe as possible and improve accessibility.
Beautification of the area is ongoing with more work scheduled for in the new year.
A major drawcard for playground adventure seekers is the flying fox and families are also enjoying the shade areas where they can comfortably sit back and watch their children play.
Wairoa District Council chief executive Steven May said he had received many positive comments from people driving across the Wairoa bridge and seeing children enjoying the playground facilities.
“The area is really coming together, it looks great and is certainly being well used.”
