Thanks for your patience

The Wairoa District Council is grateful for the understanding of people affected by Monday’s water supply disruption.

Water issues affected supply in North Clyde and parts of the southern side of town with some residents having no water at all.

Wairoa District Council chief executive Steven May said Council apologises that there was no early information communicated to residents who were affected by the water outage explaining the issue was more significant than initially realised.

“The disruption to supply was caused by a break in the water mains and contractors worked throughout Monday night to ensure supply was restored by Tuesday morning.

“Council appreciates the patience and understanding of the community, and also extends a big thank you to Fulton Hogan for working through the night to find a solution.

“Ideally, when there is a water supply issue of this level, we would endeavour to inform residents via Facebook of the situation so they could plan for the outage.

Unfortunately, because the situation turned out to be bigger than originally anticipated this did not happen.

Council and Fulton Hogan will hold a debrief next week to highlight any long-term learnings and possible corrective actions including an improved method of communicating with affected residents.
