Message from Mayor Craig Little
Wairoa now has three confirmed COVID-19 cases.
My heart goes out to these people and I wish them all the best for their recovery.
Today the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board has released a table which shows a breakdown of where abouts in the region the cases are.
Releasing this table, as the numbers have grown, means there is less likelihood of people being identified.
I have been assured the majority of Hawke’s Bay cases are returned overseas travellers and have all done the right thing by self-isolating upon their return.
The numbers won’t be broken down any further to protect the identities of people with COVID-19.
Now is not the time for keyboard warriors and unnecessary hurtful comments.
Now is this time for compassion and kindness.
Regardless of who has COVID-19, or where they live, the very best advice is to stay home, stay in your bubble and follow the precautions we are being given in order to stay safe.
People should only travel if they absolutely need to and should always maintain a two-metre physical distance.
Staying home is the only way to break the COVID-19 chain of transmission and save lives. COVID-19 will only spread if we allow it to. Stay home and stay safe.
If you see or know of people who are breaking the rules, report them on https://105.police.govt.nz
If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early by phoning theHealthline team (for free) on 0800 358 5453or phoning yourlocal GP practice.
