Big wins from buy local campaign

More than $100,000 in local spending has been recorded through the Wairoa District Council Tautoko Wairoa Buy Local campaign.

The post-COVID-19 shop local promotion was launched in mid-June with more than 3000 receipts entered, bringing the total spend at local participating businesses to more than $100,000.

The most recent winner was Susie Maindonald who made a purchase from Eastland Building and Farm Supplies Ltd.

The campaign promotes shopping and spending at local businesses.

Wairoa District Council chief executive Steven May said the campaign involved a $1000 investment by Council which will see 10 $100 winners.

“It really is a win/win situation. Feedback tells us the campaign has incentivised people to shop locally. That is good for our local businesses and good for our winners.

“Quite incredible to think that $1000 has contributed to a $100,000 local spend.

“The promotion has also prompted some really cool stories from our winners with their $100 prizemoney being spent on all sorts of extras from good old-fashioned retail therapy to a raised garden.”

The last draw in the promotion will be held at the end of this week so shoppers are encouraged to get spending to go into the draw to win.

Mr May said it would be great if other businesses in Wairoa were able to chip in to support another campaign like this.

“When our community is our supporting local businesses, we all prosper, we all benefit”

“Council can only do so much, and it would be great if other businesses were able to promote and incentivise local buying in Wairoa too”

“With Council’s Buy and Win campaign coming to an end this week, I issue a challenge for other businesses in Wairoa to also give something like this a go”

“It’s not only great to encourage our community to buy locally, but it is a good morale booster for our community and really shows what an awesome community Wairoa is.”

To enter, just spend $30 or more at a participating store, and write your name and phone number on the back of your receipt and drop it in the entry box.

One lucky shopper will have a chance to win a $100 credit to spend at a participating store.
