Wairoa’s Emergency Operations Centre has been stood up and is monitoring the developing COVID-19 situation.
Wairoa Emergency Operations Controller Juanita Savage said preparation has been carried out around key functions and a local crew is on standby ready to step up if and when needed.
“Last year when New Zealand went into Level 4 lockdown the government declared a Civil Defence Emergency. This Level 4 lockdown is different, no State of Emergency has been declared. The response is managed under the provisions of COVID-19 Public Health Legislation and the lead agency is the Ministry of Health. We will continue to monitor and support the Ministry of Health during this time.
“We are urging whānau to stay safe by staying home, keeping to your bubble and only leaving home for essential services. If you do leave home, please wear a mask and scan your QR codes.
“If you are feeling unwell, contact Healthline to get information about having a COVID-19 test.”
