Stay home and stay safe

COVID 2

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little is encouraging people to stay home and stay safe following the discovery of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in Auckland on Tuesday.

“Our government has done well to keep our country safe for as long as it has, and I believe their rapid response and immediate Level 4 lockdown is the right approach.

“Currently we are in a three-day Level 4 lockdown with businesses and schools closed. Essential services will continue, and we do not expect any disruptions around the delivery of Council services.

“We were always advised if there was evidence of community transmission that the government would go hard and fast in a bid to control the situation and that is what they have done.

“At this early stage it is not known what the response will be around Civil Defence, welfare and other support. However, I can reassure our Wairoa community that preparation work has begun, and systems are in place, as they were during last year’s March/April Level 4 lockdown, to assist our people.

“I urge everyone to listen to and watch the updates and ensure you are kept informed through the correct information sources such as www.covid19.govt.nz.

“We all need to follow the official advice by staying home and looking after ourselves and each other. Don’t panic buy, make sure there is enough to go around everybody.

“Stay safe Wairoa.”
