Alert Level 3 looming

COVID 2a

Wairoa, along with all parts of the country south of Auckland, is expected to move to Alert Level 3 at 11:59pm, Tuesday 31 August, until then we remain at Alert Level 4.

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little said Wairoa people have been great during lockdown. “They have been looking after themselves and each other and I commend the community spirit that has been demonstrated.

“It is really important that we continue this momentum to ensure we stay safe.

“Alert Level 3 is based around restriction. People are still encouraged to stay home, work from home and school from home if they can.

“Businesses can open but they cannot have customers on their premises. A number of Wairoa businesses have implemented social distancing processes to enable customers to still purchase from their local stores. Level 3 will see a continuation of this approach and I encourage businesses to work within the Level 3 restrictions while still providing a service for a local community. I also encourage local people to shop and buy locally, Tautoko Wairoa.”

Most of the Wairoa District Council facilities and services will remain the same at Alert Level 3. Council’s essential services such as kerbside waste and recycling collections will continue to operate as they have under Alert Level 4. Facilities such as the Council offices, library, i-Site, Gaiety Theatre, Mountain Bike Park, skatepark and playgrounds will remain closed under Alert Level 3.

Mr Little also shouted out to our essential workers who have been keeping our community ticking over the Level 4 lockdown.

“Even though we are expecting to drop to Level 3 from midnight on Tuesday it is important we maintain our vigilance and follow the health guidelines. We need to follow the rules by wearing masks, sanitising, following the two-metre rule and using the COVID tracer app."
