The Wairoa District Council has appointed Gary Borg as its new Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Fergus Power is pleased with the appointment.
“Gary is currently Group Manager, Corporate Services at Westland District Council, and has a distinguished financial management background.”
“At Westland District Council, Gary lead Westland’s rating review, established modern financial reporting systems and has played a significant role in their public consultation processes.”
“We have made some great moves forward in improving our financial management reporting and I want to acknowledge our outgoing CFO Andrew Morton and the team in finance for all their hard work.”
“Gary’s experience will serve us well. We have some big projects coming up and I know that Gary will be instrumental in leading our finance team and producing good outcomes for the Wairoa community.”

Originally from the UK, Mr Borg arrived in New Zealand with his partner in January 2014 and in his time at Westland has developed a passion for Local Government.
He takes particular satisfaction from engaging with the community, delivering value for money and providing high quality advice and information.
He already has several friends and colleagues with family connections to the Wairoa district and his current Chief Executive at Westland, began her career in local government as a Sports Coordinator in Wairoa 25 years ago.
“It’s such a small world with these linkages to Wairoa and I’m looking forward to the challenges and opportunities this new role will bring.”
“I’ve heard the finance team at the Wairoa District Council are a great bunch of people and hard-working and I’m excited to join the team, roll up my sleeves and do some good work for the Wairoa community.”
“I’m also keen to get involved in the community, I enjoy many sports including football (soccer to some), hockey, tramping and cycling, and I’m looking forward to taking surfing lessons so I can get the most out of the Māhia Peninsula”, says Mr Borg.
Mr Borg will officially take up the role of Chief Financial Officer at the Wairoa District Council on March 20.
