Wairoa on national stage

Kimberley Tuapawa

Wairoa District Council is igniting the future as part of this week’s ALGIM annual conference.

Wairoa will be front and centre at the three-day Wellington event with Council’s Group Manager of Information and Customer Experience, Dr Kimberley Tuapawa, presenting on Wairoa District Council’s digital technology focus.

ALGIM represents national and international interests in information technology, web and digital, information and records management, customer experience, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) within Councils across the country.

Dr Tuapawa, who was earlier appointed to the board of ALGIM, says her position allows the expertise of Council’s IT team to be shared with other Council’s around New Zealand. “This will put Wairoa on the technology front for local government and provides the district with a voice on key information management issues as well as connecting Wairoa with the latest IT developments.”

Dr Tuapawa’s roles will include being an MC for a key presentation, facilitating a workshop on customer experiences, key speaker, panellist on engagement and customer feedback and panellist judge for national 2021 ALGIM Customer Experience Project of the Year Award

Dr Tuapawa is thrilled to be so involved in this year’s conference and that Wairoa District Council’s digital work is being showcased and Council’s joint geospatial project is a finalist in the ‘Project of the Year’ award.

“Wairoa’s involvement at a national level is particularly relevant as ALGIM’s key focus areas are represented by the work that is being completed by Council staff. These include information technology and management, GIS and mapping systems, cybersecurity and privacy, records management, archives, and customer experience.”

“This type of national recognition is a win for small Councils and demonstrates that with the right resources and people, smaller Councils like Wairoa can foot it at a national level. Former local man Sir Ian Taylor is also a keynote speaker and will present on uniting the world through innovation.”

Wairoa District Council chief executive Kitea Tipuna said Kimberley’s role at the conference and the opportunity to showcase the work of the Wairoa District Council is a great opportunity and recognition of local staff.
