A section of the Hereheretau Road has been closed to heavy vehicles following further subsidence of a drop out.
The drop out site, at the 23.6km mark on Hereheretau Road, was being repaired when further collapse occurred.
As a safety precaution, and while the site is stabilised, the road has been closed to heavy vehicles.
The closure, which is about one kilometre from the Mangapoike Road intersection, is expected to be in place for the next three to four weeks, and transport companies have been advised.
Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna thanked everyone for their patience while the site is stabilised and during the road closure. “We know this is an inconvenience and collapses of this nature do happen from time to time. Our district is coming out of an extremely wet winter and because of the large amount of dropout repair work required around our district, we need to be aware that this type of incident could be something we have to deal with at other sites.”
