Christmas spirit

Christmas 1 1

The Christmas spirit was alive and kicking in Wairoa on Saturday afternoon with a huge turnout for the Christmas Parade and festival.

Around 25 floats meandered along the main street with the Lighthouse Lions taking out the top prize of best overall float.

Wairoa Mayor Craig Little described the Christmas event as a wonderful day for Wairoa demonstrating the heart of our community.

“Everyone seemed so happy to see the return of the festival fun day. A big thank you to businesses and organisations who took time out of their busy schedules to decorate floats, dress up and join the parade.

“Also thank you to Father Christmas for spending so much time with us, the Police, Fire and Ambulance staff for caring for our community, our very own Gavin Jones who helped make the event even more special, Layton Gemmell and his band Revival for the entertainment and Council staff who organised the event.

“It was really heartening to see so many people joining in and enjoying their day, so thank you also to those people who supported the festival.”

The Affco sponsored sausage sizzle and steak sandwich barbecue raised $477.10 and Council will match this amount with the money being donated to the Wairoa Fire Brigade.
