Sparking up the barbie resulted in new kit for Wairoa’s volunteer fire fighters.
The barbecue held at the recent Christmas Parade saw $477.10 raised with the Wairoa District Council matching the amount meaning a total of $954.20 donated to the local brigade.
The barbecue featured sausages and steak sandwiches with Affco Wairoa kindly sponsoring the meat.
Wairoa Fire Chief Grant Duley said the funds will most likely be spent on new shirts for the volunteers.
