Mahia recycling open from Friday

Mahia recycling containers

Mahia’s staffed recycling point will be up and running from Friday (December 23) with people encouraged to use the facility.

Based at Kaiwaitau Road, Mahia, the site will be staffed from Friday through to January 15 between the hours of 9am and 1pm.

The only days the site will be closed is December 25 and 26 and January 1 and 2.

Wairoa District Council Chief Executive Kitea Tipuna encourages people to recycle by taking all colours of glass, plastics (1,2,5), aluminium and tin cans, clean broken-down cardboard and paper to the site. General waste and whiteware are not accepted.

“Mahia has a big influx of people over the summer holiday period and this site is aimed at providing an accessible facility to encourage people to dispose of their recycling waste in the best way possible.”
