Wairoa’s new main street isite Visitor Information Centre is set to open around the end of next month.
The building work at the Marine Parade/Locke Street site has been completed, and courtyard and landscaping work is now underway.
The rebuild will include a Visitor Information Centre reception, hot desk space and a conference/training room, office and toilet facilities, bus stop area and outside courtyard.
Wairoa District Council isite staff are currently planning their move from their current Bridge Street site to the new facility.
Wairoa Mayor Craig Little said moving the Visitor Information Centre into the main street has been a Council aspiration for years. This project and the Gemmells on Parade Ahi Kōmau development have taken a long time to complete, but it is fantastic to have an area of our main street that is fresh and modern.
“We want visitors and tourists to be in the heart of our town so they can shop and buy locally while checking out what our beautiful district has to offer. The retrofit of the former Winter’s Building, although now with a smaller footprint, will vastly improve the aesthetics of the main street and complement the neighbouring area. This work would never have occurred if it wasn’t predominantly funded by Central Government through the Provincial Growth Fund and is part of revitalising the Marine Parade and putting energy and confidence back into our central business district.”
