Growing future leaders has seen the Wairoa District Council appoint local man Fulton Storey as an intern director on the QRS board.
The new position is a partnership between the Council and QRS and aims to encourage the development of future directors in Wairoa by providing an opportunity to work alongside an experienced board.
Wairoa Mayor Craig Little said the intention of the internship is to provide experience so the intern can start their journey into governance. “This is an ideal way to develop and grow local people by providing them with skills that they can use to benefit the whole of Wairoa.
“We have identified a local need for the next generation of business leaders, and we were thrilled to be able to offer this opportunity to Fulton.
“Fulton is a great local man from a well-known family. He is an achiever who does the hard graft. I know he will commit and learn from this chance.”
Fulton, owner of local business Te Kumi Fencing and Earthworks, said he is grateful to the Council and QRS for the opportunity. “Wairoa is home, and I am looking forward to learning more about the role of governance so I can learn new skills and give back to our community.”
In total, six people applied for the position, all candidates were local and of a very high calibre.
