Representation Review

It is time to do a representation review which will set the scene for the 2025 and 2028 local elections.

Notice of Representation Arrangements Review Initial Proposal

Under section 19H, and Schedule 1A of the Local Electoral Act 2001, Wairoa District Council is undertaking a review of its representation arrangements for the triennial local authority elections to be held in 2025.

On 30 July 2024, Council resolved to adopt as its initial proposal for the representation arrangements review the following:

  • a) The Wairoa District Council to comprise the mayor elected at large and six councillors elected from two district-wide wards as follows:
  • (i) Wairoa General Ward, represented by three general ward councillors.
  • (ii) Wairoa Māori Ward, represented by three Māori ward councillors.
  • b) The number of Māori ward councillors complies with Schedule 1A of the Local Electoral Act 2001.
  • c) There be no community boards.

The initial proposal has been submitted for formal consultation, including inviting written submissions from any interested person or organization. Submissions should be addressed to:

Submission forms should state your name, address, telephone number and email address (if you have one) and should reach the Council no later than 4.00pm on Friday 6 September 2024.

Council will read and consider all submissions. Please clearly state if you wish to speak in support of your submission and note that any submission made will be available to the public.

Anyone is invited to submit feedback on this consultation, whether as an individual or on behalf of an organisation, however, submissions that are out of scope, offensive, or inappropriate will not be accepted.
