Changes to flood-damaged items disposal

Attention Refuse Banner

Wairoa District Council remains committed to supporting the collection of flood-damaged items. However, the kerbside collection has now been replaced with direct landfill disposal.

With the amount of material that needs collecting now decreasing, the Council has transitioned to a permit system where impacted residents can apply to dispose of flood-damaged household goods affected in the June flooding without charge.

Some residents may have insurance that covers the cost of disposing of flood-damaged property. If they do not have insurance, they can apply to the Council for the disposal costs to be covered.

Since the June flooding, the Council provided a kerbside collection, which was the most efficient way to collect the initial large volume of flood-damaged material and protect the health of the community. The kerbside collection has now been phased out, and disposal now involves material taken directly to the landfill.

To apply for a permit to have the costs of disposal paid for, or if you need assistance moving the waste from your property or silt removal, please fill out the following application form.
